LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes is a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes, including affordable housing, mass-production homes, custom designs, stand-alone single-family homes, duplexes and townhouses, suburban and urban apartments and condominiums and lofts in historic buildings.
LEED homes have lower energy and water bills, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and fewer problems with mold, mildew and other indoor toxins.
LEED for Homes focuses primarily on new construction (single family and low to mid-rise multi-family), but some gut rehabs of pre-existing homes can qualify as well.
Many builders are already meeting 60-75% of LEED requirements without realizing it, so it would not take much additional effort to get homes certified. Leading builders who have historically incorporated high-quality construction practices into their businesses are quickly finding that LEED for Homes is well within their reach.
LEED is rapidly becoming, if not already, the most desirable credential signifying that a home is truly “Green”.
Energy IQ is proud to be a certified LEED for Homes Green Rater. We perform preliminary ratings, provide technical support, verify compliance, perform inspections and testing, and complete the documentation required to achieve certification for your project.
